Life is a marathon, not a sprint
A reflection on the pandemic, the Cansbridge fellowship, and my summer internship
I ended my Fall 2020 term with tears in my eyes. I couldn’t wait to move back home and sleep + watch the Hunger Games for the rest of the winter break.
The pandemic turned life into a sprint, and I didn’t realize it until I was completely burnt out.
No buffer times to walk between meetings. Your desk could be just 2 meters away from where you sleep. There was the newfound flexibility of how we do work and learn online.
With all the extra time available, I put a lot of pressure on myself to pour myself into causes such as the Canadian Undergraduate Tech Conference, UW Blueprint, Tech+ UW, and more while balancing either an internship or school at the same time. Any extra time I had, I wanted to build my skills and work on creative projects, which I soon didn’t even have the energy for.
Soon, I realized I didn’t even know how to answer one of the simplest questions:
“What do you do for fun?”
My only response would be:
“With what time?”
